DAISY PARK - SPACES

1 - Daisy Mound

This space is significant in providing an access point from the south via the Tally Ho and from the east from Station Road. The space also includes the car park for Daisy park which will be accessed from a new junction on the B9080.

The main feature of the space will be the sculptural grass mound, raising the ground level to provide an elevated lawn area where people will be able to enjoy views north over the claypit towards the Forth bridges and beyond. It is intended that much of the grass mound will be planted with wild flower and specifically a daisy rich mix. The slopes of the mound will offer opportunities for natural play and informal seating areas.

2 - Brickworks space

This space is located on the site of the former Winchburgh Brickworks and has been designed to provide an interpretation of its industrial past. Raised lawns will cover the archaeological remains of the brickworks recorded and retained in location. A red brick path will cut a direct route between the lawn areas at a lower level as a suggestion to the hidden bricks, designed not only to provide a direct route between the canal and the centre of the site, but also intended be a feature in itself providing seating spaces and opportunities for interpretation inscribed in the path and walls to ensure the heritage of the brickworks is brought to the foreground.

The park edge to the canal is to be open and inviting with specific entrance spaces directing movement from the tow-path into the park. The southern entrance space will be designed to reflect the brickworks character and include opportunities for seating, signage and interpretation boards. This area will also be planted with a rose bed symbolic of the miners of Winchburgh who traditionally planted roses in their gardens.

At the northern end of the brickworks the brick path will connect to another space at the centre of the park. This space will be focused around an existing Birch tree that will be protected and retained as a symbol of the regeneration of this previous industrial site, supported by some additional planting offering structure and intimacy to the site.
